Quarterly Update Broadens Infrastructure Monitoring
PAIMANA (Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring & Analytics for Nation-building) is MoSPI’s national infrastructure performance dashboard. The latest quarterly release expands the platform from 121 to 165 indicators, strengthening its ability to monitor infrastructure performance across Civil Aviation, Roads, Power, Ports & Waterways, Telecommunications and Railways.
Rather than tracking expenditure or project completion alone, PAIMANA evaluates infrastructure using a common framework based on Access, Quality, Fiscal Cost & Revenue, Utilisation and Affordability, enabling more consistent assessment across sectors and over time.
Latest Data Shows Continued Infrastructure Expansion
The updated dashboard points to continued growth across several sectors of India’s infrastructure.
Civil aviation continued to expand, with cargo traffic increasing 11.8% during April 2026, while the number of operational aerodromes reached 165, nearly doubling since 2014.
Telecommunications maintained strong momentum. Wireless data consumption rose 24.7% year-on-year to 2,85,376 petabytes, telephone subscribers increased to 133.06 crore, and tele-density improved to 93.26%, reflecting continued expansion of India’s digital infrastructure.
Road infrastructure also progressed steadily, with 9,360 km of National Highways constructed during FY 2025–26 and electronic toll collection transactions increasing 39.7% year-on-year.
Railways reported improvements in freight productivity and passenger movement, while ports and waterways continued to expand through growth in India’s shipping fleet and navigable inland waterways.
Looking ahead, the dashboard projects that India’s energy storage requirement could increase from 87 GWh in 2027–28 to 888 GWh by 2035–36, underscoring the scale of investment needed to support renewable energy integration.
What is PAIMANA?
PAIMANA (Project Assessment, Infrastructure Monitoring & Analytics for Nation-building) is MoSPI’s national infrastructure performance dashboard. It consolidates official infrastructure statistics into a single digital platform and measures sectoral performance using standardised indicators across access, quality, utilisation, affordability and fiscal sustainability. The dashboard is updated quarterly to support evidence-based infrastructure planning and governance.
Policy Relevance
Signals a shift from publishing infrastructure statistics to continuous performance monitoring, enabling infrastructure outcomes to be assessed through a common national framework rather than project expenditure or completion alone.
Creates a shared evidence base for infrastructure governance by bringing comparable performance indicators from multiple sectors onto a single public platform for use by policymakers, researchers and investors.
Supports better policy evaluation and investment planning through regular quarterly updates that allow infrastructure performance to be tracked consistently over time.
Improves transparency and public accountability by making official infrastructure performance data publicly accessible through standardised indicators and interactive analytics.
Strengthens evidence-based infrastructure planning by enabling governments to identify performance gaps, monitor service delivery and prioritise future investments using comparable metrics.
