WHO and HRP introduce toolkits and digital kits to strengthen maternal and newborn care implementation

WHO and the United Nationsβ Special Programme in Human Reproduction (HRP) are working to close the gap between global maternal and newborn care recommendations and their real-world application. The updated guidance emphasises quality of care along with positive experiences for women and newborns.
To support countries, the WHO and HRP developed two structured implementation toolkits. One helps adapt antenatal and postnatal care guidance into national policies, while the other supports intrapartum and immediate postnatal care implementation at the facility level. These toolkits provide stepwise methods, assessment tools, case studies, and indicators aligned with global monitoring frameworks.
Additionally, digital adaptation kits for antenatal and postnatal care have been launched to integrate WHO recommendations into digital health systems. A similar digital kit for intrapartum care is under preparation.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How effectively can India adapt WHOβs updated antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care recommendations, focusing on both clinical quality and positive patient experience, within its existing RMNCH +A (Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health) framework under the National Health Mission?
