On 29 September 2025, UNESCO, through its affiliated centre IRCAI, unveiled a multilingual AI Tools Radar cataloguing over 200 vetted AI solutions to support responsible use across the public sector, media, and judiciary. The Radar addresses pressing gaps: while 27.5% of media outlets surveyed already use AI, most institutions lack guidance on ethics, rights, and governance. In the judiciary, judges experimenting with general AI tools raise concerns over fairness, transparency, and accountability.
The initiative builds on UNESCOβs Recommendation on the Ethics of AI (2021) and stresses accessibility, openness, and oversight in AI adoption. For India, which is rolling out the IndiaAI Mission and exploring AI in governance, health, and courts, the Radar provides a global benchmark for balancing innovation with rights safeguards.
As India pilots AI in digital governance, newsrooms, and legal aid, integrating frameworks like the Radar can strengthen Digital India, enhance judicial reforms, and guard against risks of bias and misinformation.
What is the AI Tools Radar? β An online UNESCO platform that curates and evaluates AI tools for ethical, transparent, and responsible deployment in governance, media, and justice systems.
