The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has inked a MoU with Pfizer Limited to catalyze the commercialization of home-grown healthcare innovations. The agreement frames the Pfizer INDovation program, which will provide significant support, including grants of up to ₹60 lakh per startup and an 18-month incubation journey delivered by Social Alpha. Startups selected under the MoU will benefit from dedicated acceleration tracks that cover clinical validation, regulatory approval processes, and go-to-market planning, as well as access to expert mentorship, infrastructure, global networks, and Pfizer’s R&D facilities in Chennai.
The initiative will back 14 pioneering MedTech startups operating in areas like diagnostics, health monitoring, oncology, brain health, maternal and childcare, and immunisation. DPIIT’s Joint Secretary emphasized the push toward novel drug discovery, while Pfizer celebrated their commitment to advancing patient-centric, impactful healthcare solutions tailored to India’s needs. The partnership reinforces India’s trajectory toward becoming a global hub for healthcare innovation through strategic public–private collaboration.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can India scale such MoU-enabled innovation pipelines across healthcare and allied sectors to drive inclusive growth and global competitiveness?
