PM-KISAN 21st Instalment of ₹540+ Crore Disbursed to 27 Lakh Farmers in Flood-Affected States
SDG 1: No Poverty | SDG 2: Zero Hunger
Institutions: Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare
On 26 September 2025, Union Agriculture Minister released the 21st instalment of PM-KISAN via video conference, prioritising farmers in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, which were recently hit by floods and landslides. A sum of ₹540+ crore was transferred directly to over 27 lakh farmers, including around 2.7 lakh women farmers.
Under this round, ₹2,000 per beneficiary is expected to help farmers meet immediate household needs, procure inputs for sowing, and restore farming confidence post-calamity. The cumulative disbursement to these states under PM-KISAN has now crossed ₹13,626 crore since the scheme’s launch.
This targeted disbursement illustrates how PM-KISAN acts as both income support and agricultural resilience buffer, especially in disaster-prone states. The timely flow of funds helps maintain farmers’ liquidity, reduce distress sales, and support the next cropping cycle. In India’s agrarian policy mix, such calibrated relief connects social protection and crop security, reinforcing measures under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), crop insurance, and climate resilience strategies.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can the PM-KISAN framework be made more responsive and dynamic to emerging local shocks (floods, droughts), so that disbursement speed, targeting, and scale adapt seamlessly to crisis needs?
