Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for development projects worth over ₹9,000 crore in Aizawl, Mizoram. A major milestone was the inauguration of the Bairabi–Sairang rail line, bringing Mizoram’s capital onto the Indian railway map for the first time, including new express services to Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata. Road infrastructure projects such as the Aizawl Bypass, Thenzawl–Sialsuk Road, and Khankawn–Rongura Road were also launched under PM-DevINE and NESIDS, aimed at easing congestion, supporting horticulture farmers, and strengthening cross-border connectivity. Additional initiatives included a 30 TMTPA (Thousand Metric Tons Per Annum) LPG bottling plant at Mualkhang, the Chhimtuipui River Bridge, a Khelo India multipurpose indoor sports hall, and new educational institutions like a residential school in Mamit and an Eklavya Model Residential School in Tlangnuam.
These projects collectively advance India’s Act East Policy and the vision of the North East Economic Corridor, by linking Mizoram more closely with national and regional markets. They also address critical gaps in multi-modal connectivity, clean energy supply, and educational and sports infrastructure, reinforcing inclusive development in the North East.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can India ensure that large-scale connectivity and infrastructure investments in Mizoram translate into sustained livelihood opportunities and integration of local communities with national and regional value chains?
