International Organization for Migration Launches “Amplifying Migrant Voices” Initiative with German Philanthropic Foundation
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth | SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
Institutions: Ministry of External Affairs | Ministry of Labour & Employment
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Robert Bosch Stiftung have launched a new initiative titled “Amplifying Migrant Voices.” The programme seeks to place migrants’ perspectives at the centre of labour mobility governance by systematically incorporating their lived experiences into policy discussions.
The pilot phase will be implemented in Kenya and Germany, reflecting both a migrant-sending and a migrant-receiving context. This dual setting is designed to capture insights across the mobility cycle - ranging from recruitment and employment conditions to integration and rights protection. By partnering with a philanthropic institution known for work in health, education, and global issues, IOM aims to broaden participation beyond intergovernmental and state-led channels.
The initiative responds to calls for more inclusive migration governance, where policies are informed not only by governments and employers but also by the workers who navigate transnational labour markets. The collaboration represents an effort to embed participatory mechanisms into global labour mobility debates.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: What models of participatory engagement are most effective in ensuring that migrant voices meaningfully shape labour mobility policies in both sending and receiving countries?
