The 10th session of the India–Slovenia Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (JCTEC) was held on 26 November 2025 in New Delhi, co-chaired by the Indian Joint Secretary (Commerce & Industry) and the Slovenian Director General for Economic, Cultural and Scientific Diplomacy.
The session reviewed bilateral economic engagements and explored expansion across several sectors including agriculture, chemicals and pharmaceuticals, health, transport, energy, MSMEs, tourism, and traditional medicine/Ayurveda.
Both sides reaffirmed intent to deepen cooperation and also expressed optimism about concluding a balanced and mutually beneficial India–EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) — which could further boost trade between India, Slovenia and the broader European bloc.
The geography advantage was also underscored: Slovenia’s location at Central Europe’s crossroads and India’s expanding engagement with Europe provide a strategic base for enhanced connectivity, trade and investment flows between South Asia and Europe.
Policy Relevance:
The JCTEC session signals India’s push to diversify trade partnerships within Europe beyond large economies, leveraging smaller but strategically located EU members to broaden market access, strengthen MSME linkages and promote sectoral cooperation — especially in areas like pharmaceuticals, agriculture exports, renewable/energy cooperation, health and tourism. As India recalibrates its export strategy amid global supply-chain stress and moves to deepen ties with the EU, engagement with countries like Slovenia can help mitigate concentration risk and open niche channels for goods, services and technology cooperation.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How should Indian export policy, trade facilitation, and logistics infrastructure be tuned to utilise Slovenia’s position as a gateway between India and Central Europe effectively?
