Institutions: Ministry of Commerce and Industry
The European Union has added 102 new Indian fishery establishments to its approved list for seafood exports, enhancing India’s access to a quality-sensitive and lucrative market. This expansion reflects confidence in India’s food safety, traceability, and regulatory compliance managed by the Export Inspection Council.
The inclusion of these establishments is expected to increase export volumes, generate employment, and boost foreign exchange earnings, offering greater opportunities for exporters across coastal states and union territories. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry commits to supporting exporters with policy facilitation and capacity building.
This development strengthens India’s position as a trusted supplier and will help diversify product offerings and deepen trade relations between India and the EU.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can India build on this momentum to standardize quality controls across all seafood regions and diversify into other premium international markets?
