India will make its most significant presence yet at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2025 and the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM) in South Korea, led by the first-ever ministerial delegation from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting. The delegation includes senior officials from NFDC, FICCI, FTII, SRFTI, and IIMC, along with select creators from the WAVES Bazaar initiative. India’s showcase features 10 films, including Spying Stars by Nila Madhab Panda in the Inaugural Competition and projects such as If on a Winter Night, Shape of Momo, and Bayaan across Vision Asia and other sections. At ACFM, five Indian projects have been selected for the Co-Production Market, including Difficult Daughters (produced by Alia Bhatt and Shaheen Bhatt), The Last of Them Plagues, and Lanka (The Fire). The Bharat Pavilion, themed “India – Creative Economy for the World,” will spotlight B2B connections under WAVES Bazaar, while Bharat Parv will celebrate Indian arts, music, and cuisine. Policy dialogues with Korea are planned to launch a structured India–Korea AVGC and film co-production framework, along with LoIs between NFDC, FTII, and Korean counterparts (KAFA, KOFIC, KOCCA).
Showcasing Indian cinema at BIFF strengthens cultural diplomacy, expands India’s creative economy footprint, and builds global co-production pipelines in AVGC and film. Institutional collaborations with South Korea offer lessons for creating sustainable value chains, training frameworks, and greater international visibility for Indian creators.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can India leverage its growing presence at global film markets to negotiate stronger co-production treaties, support talent mobility, and secure distribution opportunities for diverse Indian stories?
