Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, chaired the India Post Business Meet 2025-26 (Q2), unveiling a comprehensive roadmap to transform the Department of Posts from an incremental service provider to a future-ready, large-scale logistics and financial organization aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat. The strategic plan emphasizes an urgent shift towards becoming a premium logistics provider, driven by technology and private sector collaboration.
Key strategic directives and goals announced include:
Logistics Focus: India Post aims to make its logistics vertical (parcels and mail) contribute 75% of its total revenue, with a goal of achieving ₹25,000 crore revenue from the parcel business in the next five years.
Private Sector Partnership: The business mix will target a 20:80 public-private ratio over the next five years, aiming for 80% private-sector contribution to business revenues to ensure sustainable growth.
Digital and Infrastructure Upgrade: Six new delivery services will be launched early next year. Road transport infrastructure along trunk routes is directed to be upgraded by March 2026, with a special emphasis on improving connectivity in the North-Eastern states.
Performance Monitoring: Targeted interventions are planned for twelve mid-performing circles to replicate success models from star-performing circles like Delhi and Telangana. The Minister also announced that 18 Post Offices across seven states will be developed as Next-Generation Post Offices to set new benchmarks in service excellence and accessibility.
This roadmap is a major institutional and regulatory reform of one of India’s oldest government departments, aiming to leverage its vast physical network for competitive logistics, financial inclusion, and the promotion of local enterprises (”Vocal for Local”) to boost rural economic infrastructure.
