Union Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya has inaugurated an indigenous Chemical Reference Material, Methandienone Long-Term Metabolite (LTM), developed jointly by the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL), New Delhi, and National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati. This benchmark standard is vital for anti-doping analysis in all World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)-accredited laboratories worldwide.
Framed under the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat, this milestone bolsters Indiaβs scientific contribution to clean sport and upholds global integrity. The Reference Material will be shared internationally, reinforcing Indiaβs standing in anti-doping science. The Minister also unveiled NDTLβs latest newsletter, introduced extramural grants to support cutting-edge research in areas like banned substance synthesis, pharmacokinetics, and biomarker profiling, and urged expansion of the Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU) to position India as a regional hub. A new recognition framework was launched to honor excellence in doping control research and public education.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can India leverage this anti-doping infrastructure to lead scientific collaboration in sports integrity across the Global South?
