Institutions: Ministry of Defence | Ministry of External Affairs
India and Morocco have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Defence Cooperation in Rabat, Morocco’s capital. The MoU establishes an institutional framework for collaboration in multiple areas, including joint military exercises, defence industry, co-production, cyber defence, maritime security, counter-terrorism, and military medicine.
As part of the MoU, India announced the opening of a new Defence Wing in its Embassy in Rabat to serve as a permanent liaison channel for bilateral defence cooperation. This step is expected to expand training, expert exchanges, and inter-force coordination between the two countries.
The agreement deepens India’s strategic footprint in North Africa, adding to its wider outreach in the African continent under initiatives such as India–Africa Defence Dialogue. It also provides India opportunities for defence industry collaboration and maritime cooperation in the Atlantic–Mediterranean corridor.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can India leverage new defence partnerships in Africa to strengthen both its strategic presence in the region and its domestic defence industry under Make in India?
