The Himachal Pradesh government has announced several initiatives aimed at bolstering social welfare, infrastructure, and economic development. The state’s Health Department has sanctioned over Rs. 22.44 crore to expedite the construction of health facilities, including a Cath Lab and various hospital and clinic buildings. In a move to empower women, the Himachal Pradesh Mahila Vikas Nigam has increased loan limits for education and self-employment from Rs. 75,000 to Rs. 3 lakh and Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 3 lakh, respectively. Additionally, the ‘Mukhyamantri Sukh Ashrya Yojana’ has been launched to provide comprehensive support for orphaned children, ensuring their education and well-being up to the age of 27.
On the economic front, a Cabinet Sub-Committee is working to establish a 300-acre industrial belt in Nalagarh to accelerate industrial growth and job creation. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed the House of Lords in London, inviting global investors to explore opportunities in clean energy, tourism, and horticulture, and showcasing the state’s vision for self-reliance. The Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority is also organizing “SAMARTH-2025,” a month-long mass awareness campaign to promote disaster preparedness and community resilience.
The series of initiatives highlights a multi-faceted policy approach focused on human capital development (health, education, and women’s empowerment), infrastructure (industrial and health facilities), and economic diplomacy to attract investment and foster sustainable growth.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: What specific land use and environmental sustainability policies will be implemented to ensure the new industrial belt in Nalagarh does not negatively impact the local ecosystem and agrarian communities, and how will the government ensure a balance between industrial growth and environmental preservation?
