Institution: Ministry of Power
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power has opened applications for the 35th National Energy Conservation Awards (NECA) 2025, celebrating excellence in energy efficiency, innovation, and conservation across sectors. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 14 December 2025 (on National Energy Conservation Day), and will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, with the President of India presiding.
Instituted in 1991, NECA recognises outstanding contributions by industries, buildings, transport undertakings, institutions, and energy-efficient appliance manufacturers in reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. Notably, NECA 2025 introduces a new category to honour Digital Content Creators and Influencers for their role in promoting energy conservation awareness—marking a first for the programme.
Interested participants can submit entries via the NECA portal (www.neca.beeindia.gov.in). The last date for applications is 7 November 2025.
The announcement underscores the government’s push to mainstream energy efficiency as a pillar of sustainable growth and climate strategy. By spotlighting excellence across sectors, especially in buildings, industry, transport, and appliance design, the Awards can catalyse wider adoption of efficient technologies. Introducing a digital awareness category signals recognition of the role of public engagement and social media in behavioural change.
What is the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)?
The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Power, established in 2002 under the Energy Conservation Act, 2001. Its mandate is to promote energy efficiency and conservation across India’s economy by setting standards, labelling energy-efficient products, certifying performance of industries and buildings, and coordinating national awareness programmes. BEE designs and implements key initiatives such as the Standards & Labelling Programme, Perform, Achieve and Trade (PAT) scheme for industries, and Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC). It serves as the central agency driving India’s shift toward lower energy intensity, cleaner growth, and climate resilience.
