The Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL) of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a MoU with Indian industry partners for the transfer of three advanced materials technologies. These include indigenously developed steels, alloys, and protective coatings designed to enhance the strength, durability, and performance of critical defence platforms.
The MoU marks a step forward in operationalising Atmanirbhar Bharat within the defence sector, by ensuring that laboratory-developed technologies reach industrial production and field deployment. Officials emphasised that such partnerships will not only reduce import dependence but also enable scaling up indigenous supply chains for advanced defence materials.
By embedding technology transfer in formal agreements, DRDO aims to build a structured pathway from research to production. This model strengthens Indiaβs defence innovation ecosystem and ensures that investments in R&D yield tangible outcomes for armed forces readiness and long-term strategic autonomy.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can MoU-based technology transfers be institutionalised across DRDO laboratories to create predictable pipelines for industry and enhance Indiaβs competitiveness in global defence materials markets?
