The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted two consecutive successful flight tests of the Pralay missile in July 2025 from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island, Odisha. These user evaluation trials validated the missileโs maximum and minimum range, demonstrating high accuracy and reliable subsystem performance. Developed indigenously with inputs from multiple DRDO laboratories and industry partners, including Bharat Dynamics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited, Pralay can carry diverse warheads with precision against varied targets.
In parallel, DRDO successfully trialed the UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile (ULPGM)-V3 in Andhra Pradesh. Equipped with a dual-channel seeker, day-and-night capability, modular warhead options, and a two-way data link, the system enhances Indiaโs ability to target armored vehicles, bunkers, and enemy positions. Notably, the missile was launched from an indigenous UAV developed by a Bengaluru-based start-up, reflecting the integration of MSMEs and start-ups in advanced defence systems.
These tests signal Indiaโs growing self-reliance in strategic and tactical defence capabilities.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can India accelerate the operational deployment of indigenous missile systems while deepening industryโstart-up collaboration?
