Combined Commanders’ Conference 2025: Defence Minister Calls for Jointness and Innovation to Tackle Emerging Security Challenges
SDG 16: Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Institution: Ministry of Defence
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh, speaking at the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) 2025 in Kolkata on 16 September, called for the Armed Forces to expand their readiness beyond conventional warfare, preparing for unconventional threats like information-warfare, ideological warfare, ecological and biological threats. He emphasised that modern wars are unpredictable in duration and character and urged that surge capacity must be sufficient amid such uncertainty. The Minister reiterated the theme of “JAI” (Jointness, Aatmanirbharta, and Innovation) given by Prime Minister Modi, calling for deeper engagement with industry and academia to build future-ready technologies. He also announced steps like creation of Tri-Service logistics nodes and a Tri-Service Logistics Management Application to promote integration and synergy across the services.
In a time of rapid strategic shifts and emerging threats, India’s defence posture requires not just modernisation, but systemic integration across services, technology, operations, and civil-military interfaces. Measures such as enhancing jointness, self-reliance, and innovation are essential for credible deterrence and maintaining readiness across domains.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can India accelerate the institutional and structural reforms needed, especially in procurement, logistics and inter-service coordination to ensure readiness for unpredictable multi-domain security challenges?
