The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has launched BHARATI β Bharatβs Hub for Agritech, Resilience, Advancement and Incubation for Export Enablement β a flagship initiative aimed at empowering 100 agri-food and agri-tech startups. The pilot cohort, commencing September 2025, will support innovators across domains such as GI-tagged products, organic foods, AYUSH products, superfoods, and smart technologies like AI-based quality control, blockchain traceability, IoT-enabled cold chains, agri-fintech, sustainable packaging, and sea protocols.
BHARATI is strategically aligned with India's targets of achieving USD 50 billion in agri-food exports by 2030. The initiative features a three-month acceleration programme emphasizing product innovation, export readiness, regulatory compliance, and market access. It will also leverage partnerships with state agriculture boards, agricultural universities, IITs/NITs, industry bodies, and accelerators. Designed as a scalable annual model, BHARATI supports Indiaβs broader agenda of Atmanirbhar Bharat, Vocal for Local, Digital India, and Start-Up India.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: What institutional frameworks and public-private mechanisms are required to ensure BHARATI-backed startups achieve sustainable scale, export effectiveness, and deep integration with global agri-food value chains?
