WTO Launches Monthly Trade Statistics Tool for Real-Time Global Data Insights
SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Institutions: Ministry of Commerce & Industry | Directorate General of Foreign Trade
The World Trade Organization (WTO) has launched an interactive Monthly Merchandise Trade Statistics dashboard, offering near real-time visibility into trade trends across over 120 economies and 72 product categories. Released on 14 October 2025, the tool draws on verified customs data compiled by Trade Data Monitor (TDM) and will be updated weekly, providing governments, analysts, and businesses with timely insights into global trade movements.
The new dashboard allows users to:
View short-term trade trends for individual economies and commodities.
Compare bilateral trade flows between two partners.
Track all-partner trade patterns to understand changing market shares and export dependencies.
This development addresses the long-standing gap between annual trade reports and the need for fast-cycle monitoring, particularly relevant for policymakers managing supply-chain resilience, export promotion, and trade-policy evaluation. By improving the frequency, accessibility, and transparency of data, the WTO aims to support evidence-based decision-making among member economies.
For India, access to high-frequency trade data can enhance export-market intelligence, support sector-specific interventions, and inform negotiation strategies under global frameworks. Domestic agencies such as the DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade), DGCI&S(Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics), and NITI Aayog could integrate this data to align trade analytics, logistics policies, and production-linked incentive outcomes with global demand trends.
