On 24 September 2025, the second day of the 80th UN General Assembly session centered on the intersection of technology and global governance. Delegations called for a global framework on digital cooperation, underlining that AI and emerging technologies must advance human dignity, rights, and development. Several leaders urged the creation of a charter for digital governance, warning against risks of AI misuse, disinformation, drones, and hybrid warfare.
A recurring theme was the digital divide, with developing nations pressing for technology transfer, capacity-building, and equitable access so that innovation supports the Sustainable Development Goals. Beyond technology, debates also addressed Middle East and Ukraine conflicts and included a high-level climate action event convened by the UN Secretary-General in preparation for COP 30.
These discussions highlight how digital governance, AI regulation, and climate commitments are becoming central to multilateral diplomacy. For India, participation shapes its stance on AI ethics, cyber resilience, and technology access, while positioning itself as a bridge between developed and developing nations in both digital cooperation and climate action.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How should India align its domestic AI and digital policy frameworks with global governance efforts while safeguarding developmental priorities and equitable technology access?
