Robotics for Good Youth Challenge India 2025 Promotes AI Innovation for Food Security and Global Collaboration
SDG 2: Zero Hunger | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure
Institutions: Ministry of Communications
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, co-hosted the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge India 2025 in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics (IHFC), IIT Delhi. The national challenge, held as part of the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2025, successfully concluded on October 11, 2025, in New Delhi. The event brought together 271 participants from 55 teams (aged 10 to 18) from across India to design and program AI and robotics-based solutions. The competition focused on the critical global challenge of agriculture and food security, specifically tasks like selective cultivation, irrigation, and fruit harvesting. Winners, including Team Heyansh (Junior) and The Ambitious Avengers (Senior), will represent India at the Global Grand Finale in Geneva, Switzerland, during the AI for Good Global Summit 2026. The event also included a session on โDigital Safety for Youthโ by DoT officials, underscoring the governmentโs focus on nurturing responsible digital citizens.
This ITU-DoT collaboration strategically positions Indian youth at the forefront of global technological innovation and directly aligns with the national priority of utilizing Artificial Intelligence and robotics for high-impact social sectors like agriculture, boosting Indiaโs commitment to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
What is the Robotics for Good Youth Challenge? It is a flagship, UN-based educational robotics championship organized by the ITU. The competition invites students (ages 10-18) to design and program robots using open-source tools to complete missions based on real-world problems, such as food security, to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How will the Ministry of Communications collaborate with the Ministry of Agriculture to pilot and scale the winning AI-robotics solutions developed by youth innovators for real-world application in remote farming communities?
