Institutions: Ministry of Ayush
On 26 September 2025, the Ministry of Ayush inaugurated “Prayas”, a first-of-its-kind Integrated Neuro Rehabilitation Centre at AIIA (All India Institute of Ayurveda) Goa, on the occasion of 10th Ayurveda Day. The centre brings together Ayurveda, physiotherapy, yoga, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and modern paediatric neurology under one roof, with a particular focus on children with neurological and developmental conditions.
Speakers at the launch highlighted the centre as a model of integrative care combining traditional and modern practices to improve patient outcomes in neurorehabilitation.
By establishing Prayas, the government is signaling a shift from siloed therapeutic practices to holistic, multi-disciplinary rehabilitation models that integrate Ayush systems with modern medicine. This helps fill gaps in neurorehabilitation especially for children—a domain often underserved in India’s health infrastructure. Under the National Health Policy and goals for universal health coverage, such integrated centres can improve accessibility, efficiency, and innovation in chronic care and disability services.
AIIA is a premier autonomous institute under the Ministry of Ayush, established in 2017. AIIA functions as the apex teaching, training, and research institution for Ayurveda in India. Its mandate is to integrate Ayurveda with modern scientific approaches, run postgraduate and doctoral programmes, and provide specialized clinical care. The institute also plays a key role in standardising Ayurveda education and research and acts as a hub for collaboration with national and international institutions.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How will “Prayas” ensure continuity, scaling, training and evidence generation to replicate such integrative neurorehabilitation centres across states, especially in underserved regions?
