PM Launches ₹24,000 Crore Krishi Yojana and ₹11,440 Crore Pulses Mission to Transform Rural Economy
SDG 2: Zero Hunger | SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
Institutions: Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare | Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced two flagship interventions to accelerate India’s agrarian transformation—the ₹24,000 crore Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana (PM-DDKY) and the ₹11,440 crore Mission for Aatmanirbharta in Pulses. Together, they aim to strengthen food security, raise farmer incomes, and make the rural economy more self-reliant.
The initiatives were accompanied by the inauguration and foundation-laying of over ₹6,000 crore worth of projects in animal husbandry, fisheries, and food processing, including India’s first IVF lab in the Northeast, large-scale vaccination drives, and new disease-control programmes. More than 1,100 projects were also launched under the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, while the government committed to modernising supply chains, promoting agri-startups, and supporting women-led cooperatives.
What is PM-DDKY?
The Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana unifies 36 existing schemes across 11 ministries into a single, outcome-oriented framework that integrates crops, livestock, fisheries, and processing—focusing on productivity, sustainability, and resilience.
The launch marks a shift from sectoral schemes to an integrated farm-to-market approach, recognising that agricultural growth depends as much on infrastructure and value addition as on inputs and prices. By linking crop support with livestock and fisheries development, the plan seeks to generate employment beyond cultivation and expand export potential. If executed effectively, PM-DDKY and the Pulses Mission could help close yield gaps, reduce import dependence, and create a more resilient rural economy.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can states and districts translate this integrated model into timely on-ground delivery that reaches smallholders and women farmers without fragmentation across departments?
