NITI Aayog Launches Frontier Tech Repository & “AI for Viksit Bharat Roadmap” Under Frontier Tech Hub
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Institution: NITI Aayog | Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology
On 15 September 2025, NITI Aayog officially launched two major initiatives under its Frontier Tech Hub: the AI for Viksit Bharat Roadmap: Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth, and the NITI Frontier Tech Repository. It lays out a strategic plan with two levers: accelerating adoption of AI across industries to boost productivity and transforming R&D via generative AI. The Frontier Tech Repository hosts over 200+ impact stories showcasing use of frontier technologies in four sectors (Agriculture, Healthcare, Education, and National Security) across various states and startups. Also announced are: Frontier 50 Initiative (supporting 50 aspirational districts/blocks to deploy high-impact use cases); Frontier Tech Impact Awards to recognize states using technology to improve governance and service delivery.
These steps signal India’s commitment to not just create policy frameworks, but to enable real-world adoption of frontier technologies. The Roadmap gives direction for investment, regulation, and skills development; the Repository and associated initiatives create models for scaling local innovation. For policy makers, this means enabling infrastructure, aligning regulation (data, privacy, ethics), supporting R&D ecosystems, and ensuring inclusive deployment (rural/aspirational districts etc.).
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How will India ensure these roadmap objectives translate into on-ground changes in regulatory frameworks, inclusive AI access, and measurable improvements in public services across states?
