National Water Mission Holds Workshop on “Water Conservation & Recharge” to Frame Sujalam Bharat Roadmap
SDG 6: Clean Water & Sanitation | SDG 13: Climate Action
Institutions: Ministry of Jal Shakti
As part of the preparatory exercises for the Departmental Summit on Vision for Sujalam Bharat (28–29 November 2025), the National Water Mission (NWM) convened its 6th Thematic Workshop on “Water Conservation and Recharge”. The event—hosted under the Ministry of Jal Shakti—brought ~275 delegates from states, UTs, NITI Aayog, rural development bodies, and civil society to share innovations, best practices, and state-specific proposals.
The workshop emphasised policy convergence, source sustainability, and local community participation in water recharge initiatives. Integration with MGNREGA, use of GIS and ground-level interventions, and coordination across departments were recurring themes. State case studies ranged from geomembrane farm ponds and micro-irrigation to revitalizing traditional water bodies. The feedback and state-specific inputs collected here will feed into the upcoming Summit’s roadmap as India seeks to strengthen its national water security and resilience agenda.
The workshop grounds India’s ambitious water targets in local realities, ensuring that the Sujalam Bharat Summit’s roadmap is rooted in field-tested solutions and cross-state consensus.
What is Sujalam Bharat?
A national vision launched to ensure water security, rejuvenation of water sources, and sustainable recharge practices across India through integrated governance, technology, and community action.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can India ensure that innovations and strategies discussed in such workshops translate into state-level implementation, financing, and sustained institutional support?
