SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure | SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions
Institutions: Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MoIB) | Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)
The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has launched the Multilingual Module on its E-Cinepramaan portal to significantly streamline and simplify the film certification process for the Indian film industry. This initiative is a response to the acknowledged growing trend of pan-India cinema that caters to diverse linguistic audiences across the country.
The Multilingual Film Certification feature offers a single, unified digital mechanism with three core benefits:
Single Application & Submission: Applicants can upload and submit all language versions simultaneously through the E-Cinepramaan portal. This directly addresses the problem of procedural duplication.
Unified Certificate: A single Multilingual Certificate will be issued to the film, clearly listing all languages in which the film has been approved.
Streamlined Processing: The entire application will be processed by one Regional Office, ensuring efficiency and uniformity in decision-making for all language versions.
The CBFC remains committed to enhancing transparency, efficiency, and ease of access in the certification process.
This initiative directly advances the governmentโs โEase of Doing Businessโ objective by reducing regulatory friction for a high-growth creative industry. By simplifying certification for multi-language releases, the policy supports the commercial potential of regional cinema on a national scale, encouraging the creation of more pan-India content and strengthening the nationโs cultural soft power globally.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How should the CBFC ensure standardization and uniformity in the sensitive area of content evaluation when consolidating multiple language versions under a single Regional Office?
