SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
Institutions: Ministry of Science & Technology
The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), in partnership with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, has launched the Maha MedTech Mission to accelerate indigenous MedTech development, reduce import dependence, and expand access to affordable healthcare technologies in India.
The mission provides milestone-linked funding of ₹5–25 crore per project (up to ₹50 crore for exceptional innovations) for startups, MSMEs, hospitals, R&D institutions, and industry-academia collaborations working across advanced diagnostics, AI/ML in health, robotics, surgical & assistive devices, implants, and consumables.
It includes enabling initiatives such as Patent Mitra (IP support), MedTech Mitra (regulatory/navigation support), and a national Clinical-Trial Network to improve regulatory readiness and speed-to-market for Indian health-innovation.
Strengthens India’s public health preparedness, drives self-reliance under Atmanirbhar Bharat, and improves the country’s innovation-to-manufacturing pipeline in the MedTech sector — aligning with Make in India and health-equity goals.
What is the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF)? → The ANRF is India’s new apex body for research and innovation, created under the ANRF Act, 2023 to provide strategic direction, fund high-impact science, and strengthen industry–academia partnerships. It supports universities, labs, startups and private collaborators to translate research into technologies, boost national R&D capacity, and align scientific efforts with India’s long-term development goals — including Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and the National Education Policy 2020.
