SDG 3: Good Health & Well-being | SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Institutions: Ministry of AYUSH
The Ministry of AYUSH has entered into an agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) to co-host the 2nd WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, which will take place in New Delhi from 17–19 December 2025.
The summit, themed “Restoring balance for people and planet: The science and practice of well-being”, aims to convene experts, policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders to advance the integration of evidence-based traditional medicine practices in global health policy.
Collaborating with WHO enhances India’s position in shaping the global traditional medicine agenda, boosting legitimacy of AYUSH systems on the world stage. It can help mobilise research funding, standardisation, and regulatory recognition across countries. In India’s context, it supports efforts to integrate AYUSH into public health frameworks, build credibility through evidence, and foster innovation in traditional therapies and wellness.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can India use the Summit to push for scientific standards, regulation, and evidence generation for AYUSH systems, ensuring they complement modern healthcare rather than being sidelined?
