SDG 4: Quality Education | SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Institutions: Ministry of Culture
The Ministry of Culture launched ‘Gyan Bharatam,’ a national initiative aimed at preserving, digitizing, and sharing India’s manuscript heritage. The first International Conference on Manuscript Heritage was held from September 11-13, 2025, gathering over 1,100 scholars and experts to discuss strategies for safeguarding this knowledge legacy. The event featured the participation of the Prime Minister and senior culture ministry officials.
The conference culminated in the adoption of the Delhi Declaration, pledging to preserve manuscripts as a cultural cornerstone and promote public engagement through modern technology and social media. Emphasis was placed on making manuscripts accessible to the broader public, turning preservation efforts into a mass movement.
This initiative seeks to establish India as a global leader in manuscript heritage while nurturing unity and knowledge transmission across generations.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can technology and community engagement be effectively combined to scale the preservation and popularization of India’s manuscript heritage nationwide?
