Institutions: Ministry of Defence (MoD)
At the Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025, the government underscored that India has emerged as a “voice of balance and responsibility” — especially among Indo-Pacific and Global South countries — thanks to its economic strength, technological capabilities, and principled foreign policy.
Rajnath Singh, speaking at the Dialogue, said India’s reforms in defence — from procurement to indigenous production — along with modernisation of border and maritime infrastructure, have strengthened the nation’s strategic autonomy and its ability to contribute to regional stability.
The event also featured the launch of key initiatives:
Project Ekam — an “AI-as-a-Service” platform under iDEX ADITI 2.0 for the Armed Forces.
Prakshepan — a military-climatology application developed for landslide, flood and avalanche prediction, with potential civil-disaster-resilience use.
A Green Hydrogen Microgrid Project for army establishments at high-altitude Ladakh, aimed at replacing fossil-fuel DG sets and cutting ~1,500 tonnes of annual carbon emissions.
Policy Relevance:
The Dialogue reflects India’s strategic ambition to marry military modernisation, technological self-reliance and climate-aligned defence infrastructure. By advancing indigenous AI & green-energy solutions for security forces, the government signals a paradigm shift: defence reforms are now also a vehicle for industrial self-reliance, tech-innovation, and sustainability. This shapes India’s global posture and offers a replicable model for other ministries — including clean energy, climate, industry and disaster management — on integrating defence and civil resilience priorities.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can India leverage defence-driven AI, green energy, and climate-resilience investments to enhance civil disaster response, clean-tech manufacturing capacity and cross-sectoral strategic autonomy?
