SDG 2: Zero Hunger | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Institutions: Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare | Indian Council of Agricultural Research
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has formally launched Maitri 2.0, the second edition of the Brazil-India cross-incubation programme in agritech. The initiative is positioned as a “two-way learning platform” for co-creation between Indian and Brazilian innovators. ICAR highlighted its journey from producing 74 patents in 1996 to over 1,800 annually today, supported by its growing network of incubation centers and over 5,000 licensing agreements. The Brazilian Ambassador emphasized strategic synergies between the two agritech ecosystems. ICAR–IARI (Indian Agricultural Research Institute) also noted its support to 400+ agritech startups. The programme aims to facilitate incubator linkages, exchange of practices, co-incubation, and collaborative opportunities in sustainable agriculture and value chains.
This initiative strengthens India’s strategic agricultural ties with Brazil—leveraging complementarities in innovation, scaling up incubator ecosystems, and positioning both nations as partners in global food systems. For India especially, Maitri 2.0 can accelerate translation of public R&D into farmer-facing solutions, aligning with national goals of agritech commercialization and climate resilience.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
