An official Secretary-level delegation, led by Dr. Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary of the Department of Fisheries, is visiting Reykjavรญk, Iceland from 10-12 September 2025 to deepen bilateral cooperation in fisheries and aquaculture. The visit included high-level meetings with the Iceland Ocean Cluster (IOC), Icelandic companies such as BRIM and Hampiรฐjan, and MATIS (a food & biotech R&D company), to explore zero-waste fisheries, technology transfer, value-addition, traceability, and certification. Indiaโs NFDB presented its vision of fisheries and aquaculture cluster development, while discussions focused on institutional tie-ups, investment promotion, and innovation exchange.
This partnership underscores Indiaโs push to scale its blue economy through sustainable production, regulatory modernization, and international cooperation; the zero-waste and traceability commitments are especially relevant to ensure environmental sustainability and global market competitiveness.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: What frameworks will ensure that investment, technology transfer, and innovation reach small fisherfolk, coastal communities and remote regions, preserving livelihoods while meeting sustainability benchmarks?
