Government Homoeopathy Research Center Trains Scientists in Virus Outbreak Response
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being | SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Institutions: Ministry of Ayush | Ministry of Health and Family Welfare
The Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), under the Ministry of Ayush, has collaborated with the Manipal Institute of Virology (MIV), a unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), to strengthen Indiaβs public health emergency response. This partnership began with a five-day βBiosafety & Outbreak Simulation Training 2025β workshop for 30 CCRH research scientists selected from 14 states/UTs. The specialized capacity-building program aims to enhance preparedness, biosafety practices, and outbreak response capabilities among Homoeopathy researchers, with an emphasis on the potential of Homoeopathy in addressing epidemics and pandemics. To solidify this collaborative approach, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was exchanged between CCRH and MAHE to facilitate future collaboration in research, education, and training.
This initiative operationalizes the integration of Ayush systems into Indiaβs national public health security framework, aligning the resources of traditional medicine research with modern biosecurity and epidemic preparedness strategies.
What is Biosafety Training? Biosafety training is specialized instruction on containment principles, technologies, and practices implemented to prevent the accidental exposure to, or release of, hazardous biological agents (like viruses). It matters as it is essential for safely conducting research on infectious diseases and for preparing scientists to handle dangerous pathogens during an epidemic or pandemic response.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: What measurable performance indicators should be established to certify the competency of trained Ayush scientists in supporting modern virology surveillance and outbreak response?
