SDG 1: No Poverty | SDG 2: Zero Hunger
Institutions: Ministry of Commerce & Industry | Government of Bihar
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has inaugurated a new regional office in Patna, Bihar, marking a boost for local agriculture export infrastructure. Alongside this, the first international shipments of Makhana from Bihar have been flagged off. The new office is expected to directly support farmers, agripreneurs, women-led enterprises, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), start-ups, and aspiring exporters in Bihar by providing technical guidance, institutional support, and improved market access.
This is a move towards enhancing export readiness and inclusivity in agriculture, reducing barriers for small producers, and strengthening Bihar’s position in high-value agricultural trade. Institutional presence nearby means better oversight, quicker support, and stronger export compliance which together can unlock income opportunities.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How can policy ensure that this institutional support is matched by robust supply chains, quality assurance, and aggregation so small producers benefit equitably from increased export trade?
