Fish Tech Pavilion Unveiled at World Food India to Showcase Innovation in Fisheries
SDG 14: Life Below Water | SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure
Institutions: Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying | Department of Fisheries
Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel inaugurated the Fish Tech Pavilion under the Department of Fisheries at World Food India 2025, held in Delhi. The Pavilion serves as a global platform to display cutting-edge technology and innovation in aquaculture and fisheries, such as Recirculatory Aquaculture Systems (RAS), Biofloc Technology, Aquaponics, Cage Culture, smart harbours, and seaweed farming.
One highlight is a prototype drone under PMMSY (Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana) designed to carry up to 70 kg of fish and aquaculture products, aimed at improving last-mile logistics, inventory movement, surveillance and monitoring of aquatic zones. Also featured is a Vessel Communication & Support System installed on ~1 lakh marine vessels under national rollout, providing real-time alerts, safety features, and trackingโparticularly relevant during events like Cyclone DANA.
This exhibition reflects the governmentโs push to modernise the blue economy with technology-driven, climate-resilient, and sustainably scalable fish farming systems. It reinforces aims of PMMSY, helps integrate fishers into tech-enabled value chains, and boosts export competitiveness. For coastal and inland states alike, these showcased technologies offer pathways to upgrade fisheries, reduce post-harvest losses, and improve safety in marine fishing zones.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
Which districts or states should be prioritized for early pilot deployment of drone logistics, smart harbours, or monitoring systems under PMMSY, and how can local fishers be trained to adopt them?
