Defence Innovation Body and Education Consultancy Firm Partner to Develop Dual-Use Technologies for Education and Civilian Use
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure | SDG 4: Quality Education
Institution: Ministry of Defence | Ministry of Education
The Innovations for Defence Excellence–Defence Innovation Organisation (iDEX-DIO) and EdCIL (India) Ltd have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding under the Accelerating Strategic Progress in Research and Education (ASPIRE) program. The collaboration aims to adapt iDEX’s defence-focused innovation model to the civilian and education technology sectors, leveraging both organisations’ strengths and the startup ecosystem to co-develop scalable dual-use technologies. iDEX has engaged with over 650 startups and MSMEs, securing procurement clearances worth ₹3,250 crore across 50 products and placing orders worth ₹1,652 crore for 36 of them.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders:
How can the ASPIRE model be structured to ensure dual-use innovations successfully transition from defence to civilian ed-tech applications while fostering accountability and equitable access?
