AYUSH Ministry Strengthens Research Planning and Collaboration in Ayurveda via Manthan–2025
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being | SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals
Institutions: Ministry of Ayush
The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), under the Ministry of Ayush, has organized a two-day planning and review meeting titled “CCRAS–Manthan–2025” from October 13 to 14, 2025, at the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Lucknow. The meeting brings together Heads of all CCRAS Institutes and Nodal Officers to conduct a comprehensive performance review, set strategic planning, and align research activities for the financial year 2026–27. Prof. (Vd.) Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, is emphasizing the importance of strengthening inter-institutional collaborations and integrating multidisciplinary approaches to accelerate scientific progress in Ayurveda. Discussions during the two-day event will encompass diverse domains including Clinical Research, Drug Development, Pharmacology, and Public Health. These deliberations aim to strengthen coordination, streamline processes, and ensure effective planning to translate research outcomes into practical health solutions for public benefit.
The institutionalization of the “Manthan” annual planning meeting is a strategic move by the Ministry of Ayush to shift toward evidence-based practice and modern scientific validation of Ayurvedic research. This is vital for standardizing drugs and enhancing the credibility and global reach of Ayurveda, directly supporting India’s public health and traditional medicine mandates.
What is CCRAS? → The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS) is an autonomous body under the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. It coordinates, formulates, develops, and promotes research in Ayurvedic science, with a network of 30 peripheral institutes across the country.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: Given the focus on ‘multidisciplinary approaches’, what framework will the Ministry of Ayush adopt to mandate collaboration between CCRAS and CSIR/ICMR institutes to accelerate clinical validation and standardization of Ayurvedic drugs?
