SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being | SDG 13: Climate Action
Institutions: Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) reported that its supported WWF-India (World Wide Fund for Nature India) EIACP Programme Centre successfully organized the “Breath of Change – Clean Air, Blue Skies” awareness campaign in collaboration with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Between June and August 2025, the multi-stakeholder effort engaged over 2,00,000 citizens through more than 25 high-impact workshops and outreach programs.
The campaign targeted over 65 schools and high-footfall pollution hotspots across Delhi, reinforcing collective action for sustainable living. Activities focused on behavioral change through public engagement, screening the Mission LiFE documentary, promoting the Vayu Mitra Pledge for clean air, and encouraging “waste to wealth” innovations. Furthermore, the initiative contributed to green cover by planting and distributing over 1,750 native saplings under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0.
The successful mobilization of over two lakh citizens and the institutional partnership with CAQM validates a critical policy approach: linking high-level regulatory enforcement with bottom-up public awareness and sustained behavioral change under the Mission LiFE paradigm to tackle Delhi’s chronic air pollution problem.
What is the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM)? → The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) is a statutory body established by the Government of India to address air pollution issues in the National Capital Region (NCR) and its adjoining areas. It serves as a unified body to coordinate research, monitoring, and enforcement efforts across multiple states and central ministries, providing a scientific and regulatory framework for air pollution mitigation.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: What binding policy framework will CAQM establish to ensure local citizen actions (Vayu Mitra Pledge) are integrated and sustained within the official Air Quality Management framework?
