The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) has released The Green Technology Book: Energy Solutions for Climate Change in Asia and the Pacific, showcasing scalable technologies for urban, rural, and industrial decarbonisation across the region.
The compendium profiles practical innovations such as solar-powered irrigation systems, biomass gasifiers, waste-to-energy solutions, rooftop PV microgrids, and energy-efficient water utilities—technologies that have strong relevance for India’s climate and energy priorities.
While not limited to India, several entries draw from regional models applicable to Indian contexts, including sustainable electrification in rural agriculture, off-grid clean cooking systems, and low-carbon building retrofits in tropical climates.
WIPO underscores that patent-enabled green technologies can help developing countries meet net-zero commitments while fostering local manufacturing and technology transfer.
For India, the publication aligns with National Solar Mission, Bioenergy Programme, and Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) objectives, reinforcing that intellectual property frameworks can accelerate clean technology diffusion. It also illustrates how open-access innovation platforms can connect Indian start-ups and research labs with global green technology networks.
What is the WIPO Green Technology Book? → A thematic annual publication by the World Intellectual Property Organization, curating and mapping climate-relevant technologies by sector and region. It matters because it serves as a bridge between innovators, policymakers, and investors seeking climate-adaptive solutions.
