The UNTCC (United Nations Troop Contributing Countries) Chiefs’ Conclave 2025, hosted by the Indian Army from October 14–16, concluded in New Delhi with Chiefs and representatives from 32 nations affirming a collective resolve to strengthen UN peacekeeping operations. President Droupadi Murmu stressed the need to co-opt all stakeholders and leverage technology to ensure deeper cooperation and peacekeeper safety.
External Affairs Minister Shri S Jaishankar called for recalibrating global peacekeeping efforts, highlighting that the rise of non-state actors demands realistic mandates, better technology, and enhanced safety for troops.
A key focus was an Interactive Session on “Leveraging Technology in UN Peacekeeping,” which explored indigenous solutions from India’s Aatmanirbharta defense ecosystem to enhance operational effectiveness. India specifically highlighted its ongoing commitment to technological solutions by supporting the rollout of the UNITE AWARE Platform across select UN peacekeeping missions. India’s technological innovation, training (through the Centre for UN Peacekeeping), and emphasis on realistic mandates are intended to prepare global troops for increasingly complex environments.
The UNITE AWARE Platform is a technology platform developed by India in collaboration with the United Nations to enhance the safety and security of peacekeepers by improving situational awareness. It uses modern surveillance technology to deliver early warnings, assess real-time threats, and monitor entire peacekeeping operations, with India contributing $1.64 million to the project’s rollout.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: What concrete mechanisms will India pursue to ensure UN decision-making incorporates the ground realities and technological needs of Troop Contributing Countries?
