Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan to Focus on Women’s Health Services Through Nationwide Health Camps
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being | SDG 5: Gender Equality
Institutions: Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare is launching Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, a health campaign from 17 September to 2 October 2025, aimed at enhancing women’s and children’s health. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has called on all medical colleges to participate, organising health camps at Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, CHCs, and other public health facilities. The campaign includes screening for hypertension, diabetes, oral, breast and cervical cancers; anaemia counselling; TB and sickle cell screening in tribal areas; maternal & childcare; immunisation; nutrition & menstrual hygiene awareness; and involvement in a mass blood donation drive targeting one lakh units.
This initiative strengthens India’s health system by integrating preventive and specialized women’s health services at scale while emphasising nutrition and behavioural change. It aligns with existing missions like Ayushman Bharat, Poshan Abhiyaan, and maternal health schemes, but its success will depend on equitable implementation, closing rural/urban and state disparities, ensuring skilled human resources, and sustaining follow-ups beyond the campaign period.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can the campaign maintain momentum after the two-week period so that screening and treatment gaps are reduced permanently rather than temporarily?
