SIAM Monthly Data Shows Two-Wheeler Growth Amidst Mixed Passenger Vehicle Trends
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure | SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
Institution: Ministry of Heavy Industries | Ministry of Finance
The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has issued its latest monthly data release on vehicle sales and production. The figures indicate that two-wheelers continue to post steady year-on-year growth (β8β9%), supported by rural demand and easing finance availability, while passenger vehicle sales remained flat or showed slight contraction. Three-wheelers also registered positive momentum, highlighting demand in intra-city transport. SIAM noted that the upcoming festive season could improve demand across categories, though macroeconomic pressures and uneven rural recovery remain challenges.
As SIAMβs monthly data reflects both resilience and weakness across vehicle segments, it provides policymakers with a pulse of consumer demand and supply chain health. Supportive measures in credit, rural infrastructure, and targeted incentives can help sustain growth in resilient categories while addressing lagging passenger vehicle demand.
