Institutions: Ministry of Railways
Union Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inspected the newly constructed Yatri Suvidha Kendra (Permanent Holding Area) at New Delhi Railway Station (NDLS), a facility designed to accommodate approximately 7,000 passengers and dramatically enhance pre-boarding comfort. The Minister announced that similar state-of-the-art centers would be developed at other stations across the country to manage the surge in passenger volume, especially during festival seasons.
The new Kendra is strategically organized into Pre-Ticketing, Ticketing, and Post-Ticketing Zones to efficiently streamline passenger flow and reduce terminal congestion. Amenities include 22 ticket counters, 25 Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs), seating for 200, High Volume Low Speed (HVLS) Fans for cooling, and advanced security (CCTV, luggage scanners).
An essential parallel infrastructure upgrade also extended Foot Over Bridge 1 (FOB 1) to provide passengers direct access to the Metro Station, significantly improving multimodal connectivity.
The launch underscores the Ministryβs commitment to modernizing crucial infrastructure and enhancing passenger-centric services, establishing a standardized, high-capacity model for terminal management across the national network.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders: How will the Ministry of Railways ensure this new holding area model is scaled efficiently across all major terminals to consistently manage passenger flow?
