SDG 9: Industry, Innovation & Infrastructure | SDG 8: Decent Work & Economic Growth
Institution: Government of Arunachal Pradesh
The Prime Minister has inaugurated and laid foundation stones for development projects totalling ₹5,100+ crore in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh on 22 September 2025. Key announcements include two hydropower projects in the Siyom sub-basin (Heo 240 MW and Tato-I 186 MW), a convention centre at Tawang, and infrastructure across connectivity, health, fire safety, and women’s hostels. Concurrently, the government introduced a GST rationalisation (5% and 18%) and launched a “GST Savings Festival.”
This set of projects underscores the government’s strategy for regionally balanced growth, especially focusing on the Northeast. The pairing of large capital investments (energy, social infrastructure) with fiscal reforms suggests a dual emphasis on structural development and ease of doing business. Looking ahead, successful implementation and capacity-building will be critical to converting announcements into sustained regional transformation.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How can central and state agencies ensure that these infrastructure projects include safeguards (environmental, social, maintenance) and integrate with long-term development plans in Arunachal Pradesh?
