Phase I of “आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार” Campaign Raises Citizen Awareness of Unclaimed Assets

From 15 to 17 October 2025, the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, launched Phase I of the nationwide awareness campaign titled “आपकी पूँजी, आपका अधिकार” (“Your Money, Your Right”), covering 25 districts across 13 States/UTs.
The campaign’s mission is to help citizens trace and reclaim unclaimed financial assets — including dormant bank balances, unclaimed dividends, insurance proceeds, shares, mutual funds, and pension entitlements.
Key features of Phase I:
District-level outreach via helpdesks and digital kiosks to assist individuals in checking their unclaimed assets, filing claims, and completing KYC / re-KYC formalities.
Coordination with State-Level Bankers’ Committees (SLBCs), State-Level Insurance Committees (SLICs), and Lead District Banks under DFS’s oversight.
Public participation included local dignitaries, MPs, state officials, financial institutions, regulators, along with citizens.
The campaign is structured around a 3A Strategy: Awareness, Accessibility, Action — building public knowledge, facilitating user-friendly access, and ensuring claim initiation.
Future phases (Phase II & III) will continue district outreach in October/November 2025 to extend reach and deepen citizen engagement.
This campaign reflects a push toward financial inclusion and citizen rights in the formal financial system - helping individuals recover assets locked due to lapses in tracking or institutional falloff. By mobilising regulators, banks, and local administrative apparatus, the campaign also helps strengthen linkages between citizens and financial institutions.
Relevant Question:
How can Phase II and III ensure coverage in remote or underserved districts, and what mechanisms should DFS set up to monitor claim success rates and resolution timelines post-campaign?
