Released in September 2025, “AI for Viksit Bharat: The Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth” provides a comprehensive roadmap to boost India’s growth through artificial intelligence. It estimates that India can reach $8.3 trillion GDP by 2035 if it accelerates AI adoption across industries (banking, manufacturing, pharma, automotive etc.), scales up R&D (especially generative AI), and becomes a global data capital. Key enablers include improved data infrastructure, equitable access to data, strong AI governance frameworks, a robust AI-skilling ecosystem, and support mechanisms for MSMEs. The report also flags potential risks around fragmented infrastructure, talent shortages, regulatory gaps, privacy concerns, and unequal access.
This report shows that AI is no longer just a technology trend, but a strategic lever for India’s Viksit Bharat vision. It underscores the need for policy coherence aligning regulations, investing in infrastructure and skills, ensuring ethical standards, and building inclusive mechanisms so that the benefits of AI reach multiple sectors (not just big firms). For industries and state governments, it lays out concrete sector-based priorities as well.
