Ministry of Ayush Joins “Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan” to Promote Women’s Health & Well-Being
SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being | SDG 5: Gender Equality
Institution: Ministry of Ayush
The Ministry of Ayush is participating in the nationwide Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivar Abhiyaan, a sixteen-day campaign co-led by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, aimed at enhancing women’s health and well-being across India. Activities will include health check-ups and screening camps for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), cancers, anaemia, tuberculosis, and sickle cell disease; maternal and child health services; lifestyle counselling; yoga sessions; and Ayush-based interventions. The campaign also seeks to raise awareness via educational institutions, self-help groups, radio, TV, social media, and community mobilization through grassroots actors. Special focus will be on conditions such as polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD), stress, and nutrition, and on promoting traditional wellness practices, including “Prakriti Pareekshan”.
This integrated campaign underscores a policy shift toward holistic, preventive health models, blending mainstream public health interventions with Ayush modalities. It has implications for expanding health screening infrastructure, institutional collaboration, community mobilization, and possibly for formalising Ayush interventions in national women’s health policy.
Relevant Question for Policy Stakeholders:
How will state and district-level health systems be resourced and monitored to deliver both conventional and Ayush-based services effectively throughout this campaign, and what mechanisms will ensure continuity beyond its 16-day span?
