Madhya Pradesh Initiative to Connect Cotton Farmers with International Textile Markets and Partnerships
SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth | SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Institutions: Ministry of Commerce and Industry | NITI Aayog | Government of Madhya Pradesh
Madhya Pradesh’s leadership announced direct international market access for the state’s cotton farmers, aiming to position the region as a hub for organic and traceable cotton. The initiative involves collaboration with major global textile companies and promotes integration of farmer groups with international value chains through strategic partnerships.
The state is supporting sustainable and organic cotton cultivation and investing in infrastructure, traceability platforms, and policy incentives for ethical sourcing. Efforts include connecting Farmer-Producer Organizations with global markets, fostering rural employment, and promoting value-added agro-processing.
Policy measures are also focused on expanding women’s participation and supporting the adoption of green technologies in textile manufacturing. The integrated approach is intended to boost farmer incomes and enhance the state’s position in international textile supply chains.
Relevant question for policy stakeholders: How can other cotton-producing states replicate Madhya Pradesh’s integrated approach to direct global market access and sustainable cotton production?
