Indian Traceability and Authentication Industry Study 2025 Highlights Market Growth
SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure | SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
Institutions: Ministry of Commerce and Industry | Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution
The Authentication and Traceability (A&T) Industry Study, released in September 2025 by Accenture and ASPA, provides India’s first detailed market mapping of authentication and traceability technologies. The industry, valued at ₹9,705 crore in 2023–24, is projected to expand to ₹16,575 crore by 2028–29, with a CAGR of 11.3%. The report highlights pharmaceuticals, FMCG, auto components, and agrochemicals as key sectors driving demand for secure supply chains. Regulatory pushes, such as QR code mandates for top pharma brands, high-security vehicle plates, and tax stamp requirements are central to this growth.
This report is significant as it identifies authentication technologies as both an economic opportunity and a governance necessity. With counterfeiting posing risks to health, safety, and revenues, the study underscores the need for India to formalize anti-counterfeiting frameworks, invest in “phygital” solutions (QR + blockchain), and strengthen institutional roles in consumer awareness, compliance, and trade facilitation.
